Mercier Therapy in Kansas City: A Conservative Path Forward When Fertility Feels Impossible

When "Unexplained" Isn't an Answer

If you're walking the fertility journey right now, you already know how quickly the word unexplained starts to feel like a dead end.

You've done the bloodwork. You've tracked the cycles. You've had the conversations with your OB, maybe a reproductive endocrinologist, maybe both. And somewhere along the way, someone told you your numbers looked fine, your tubes were clear, your partner's results were strong, and then, in the same breath, suggested the next invasive step without ever telling you why it would work for you specifically.

You are not alone in that frustration. And it's exactly the frustration that led Dr. Angela LeBlanc to Mercier Therapy, first as a patient, and eventually as one of the few providers in the Kansas City area trained to offer it.

"I found Mercier Therapy after being on the infertility 'train' for several years. And that's exactly what it felt like — a well-oiled machine with a distinct destination and very specific, inflexible route to get there. After following the protocols for about a year which included four cycles of IUI without success and no explanations as to why my body wasn't responding as we'd hoped, I decided to take a break and get off the train. My desire for a family hadn't changed, but I wanted to stop trying to force my body to do something for which it clearly wasn't ready. Angela and Mercier Therapy gave me the chance to slow down, work WITH my body, and offer it healing and care instead of forcing it to perform a certain way. I ended up conceiving naturally shortly after completing the 6-week [process] of Mercier Therapy."

Meet Dr. Angela LeBlanc, PT, DPT: A Provider Who's Walked This Road

Dr. Angela's path into Mercier Therapy was personal.

After six months of trying to conceive, she learned her progesterone was extremely low. What followed was a familiar story to many women in the fertility community: seven medicated cycles on Letrozole and Clomid at the highest dose, trigger injections, timed intercourse, HSG testing, saline sonograms, a hysteroscopy to remove a polyp and abnormal tissue that took six ultrasounds and two providers to even identify. Then a failed IUI (despite her husband's A+ semen analysis). THEN the recommendation for IVF, offered with no clear reason why it would work for them as a couple beyond "it's protocol."

"I was frustrated that no one could tell me why these things would benefit us," Dr. Angela said. "Protocol wasn't enough. I needed to understand my body."

Mercier Therapy was the first treatment that made sense. It was conservative: no injections, no speculums, no medications, no side effects that left her feeling unlike herself. And when she attended her Mercier training course, something Dr. Mercier said stayed with her: that emotional trauma, especially stored in the abdomen, can "turn the light off" on reproductive organs and keep them from functioning the way they want to.

For Dr. Angela, who had navigated years of abdominal and gut issues alongside the emotional weight of infertility, that framing was a revelation. Mercier Therapy helped her reconnect to an area of her body she had been disconnected from for a long time. It wasn't the whole puzzle, but it was a piece. A real one.

That lived experience is now the foundation of how she practices. Patients who come to Well + Core for Mercier Therapy in Kansas City aren't just getting a skilled provider; they're getting someone who has sat in the same waiting rooms, asked the same impossible questions, and come out the other side.

What Is Mercier Therapy?

Mercier Therapy is a non-invasive, hands-on manual therapy developed by Dr. Jennifer Mercier to improve pelvic organ mobility and blood flow to the reproductive system. It was designed with fertility in mind, but its benefits extend to a range of pelvic health concerns.

Here's what it isn't:

  • It is not a medication or injection.

  • It does not involve internal speculum use in the way traditional gynecological exams do.

  • It does not interfere with or replace any fertility treatment you're already pursuing.

Here's what it is:

  • A six-week protocol of hands-on visceral manipulation focused on the uterus, ovaries, and surrounding pelvic structures.

  • A therapy grounded in improving mobility, circulation, and the nervous system's relationship with the reproductive organs.

  • A conservative, patient-centered option that can be used alone or alongside other fertility treatments like IUI, IVF, or natural conception efforts.

For many patients, Mercier is one piece of a larger puzzle. It pairs well with other pelvic floor physical therapy work including the breathwork, core coordination, and nervous system regulation that Well + Core is known for.

Who Is Mercier Therapy For?

Mercier Therapy may be a fit if you:

  • Have been diagnosed with "unexplained infertility" and want to explore root causes

  • Have a history of abdominal surgery, endometriosis, PCOS, or pelvic adhesions

  • Are preparing for IVF or IUI and want to optimize pelvic blood flow beforehand

  • Have experienced pregnancy loss and are looking for a gentle, reconnective therapy

  • Want a conservative option before pursuing more invasive fertility interventions

  • Feel disconnected from your body or have emotional history stored in the abdominal/pelvic region

It's also appropriate for women who are not actively trying to conceive but want to support long-term pelvic and reproductive health.

"I have PCOS and went through two egg retrievals and three embryo transfers. Two of those transfers were successful, and both were paired with Mercier Therapy. While every journey looks different, I truly believe Mercier Therapy played a meaningful role in supporting my body and overall experience. It gave me hope, but also helped me feel more connected and supported throughout the process. Having Angela as part of my care team made such a difference as well. She understands infertility on a personal level, and that kind of empathy is invaluable."

What to Expect from Mercier Therapy at Well + Core

Every Mercier Therapy journey at Well + Core begins the same way: with a conversation. Dr. Angela will take the time to understand your full history (medical, emotional, and relational) before any hands-on work begins. This isn't a quick-intake appointment. It's the beginning of a relationship.

The protocol itself spans six weeks, with weekly hands-on sessions. Between visits, you'll have space to check in, ask questions, and bring what's coming up both physically and emotionally into the conversation. Many patients describe it as one of the first times in their fertility journey they've felt genuinely listened to.

Because Well + Core is a pelvic floor physical therapy practice first, Dr. Angela is uniquely positioned to integrate Mercier with the broader pelvic health picture. If breathwork, diaphragm mobility, core coordination, or nervous system regulation are also part of what your body needs, those tools are already in the room.

"I started Mercier Therapy after three back-to-back miscarriages. I was working with a reproductive endocrinologist, but I was at a point in my journey where I was ready to throw anything at the wall and see what sticks. After learning about how Mercier Therapy can restore blood flow to your organs after things like surgery, I knew it was worth a shot. Working with Angela for those six weeks was extremely empowering for me. I learned to control muscles that I didn't even realize were constantly tight. Within the sessions, I could feel my body responding to the treatment, and I even experienced less back pain. Two cycles after I completed Mercier, I found out I was pregnant again. And my beautiful rainbow baby was born nine months later."

Dr. Angela's Advice to Women in the Middle of the Fertility Journey

When asked what she most wants women who are discouraged by fertility struggles to hear, Dr. Angela keeps coming back to three words: trust your gut.

"I didn't, for a lot of my fertility journey," she says. "And it was always right."

Her other advice, in her own words:

  • If a month goes by and something feels off, start digging. You don't need to wait for a year of trying to advocate for answers.

  • If your provider isn't listening, switch. You are allowed to change providers. You are allowed to ask for a different perspective.

  • Educate yourself on your body and your cycle. Ask why each next step is right for you, not for a protocol.

  • Ask for the blood tests. Make sure levels are optimal and drawn at the correct time in your cycle.

  • Address mental health - yours and your partner's. You are a team. Learn how to support each other.

  • Find your people. The infertility community, Dr. Angela says, is "the best, most supportive community that no one wants to be a part of."

That last point matters more than most patients expect.

The Well + Core Circle: Community as Part of Healing

One of the most healing parts of Dr. Angela's own fertility journey wasn't clinical, it was the women around her. The ones who answered the late-night questions. The ones who understood without having to be explained to.

That's why the Well + Core Circle exists. It's a community space for the women who come through our doors, built on the same principle that shaped Dr. Angela's practice: no one should walk this road alone.

Whether you're pursuing Mercier Therapy, recovering postpartum, navigating chronic pelvic pain, or just starting to ask questions about your body, the Circle is a place to feel seen.

"I truly believe Mercier Therapy helped my body feel safe again and supported me through trauma I had experienced — from the birth of my daughter to the losses that followed. Angela was a true angel and has become someone I now call a friend. She was always there to listen, offer support, and remind me that my body was capable of carrying another baby. She also supported me as I explored additional resources, including diagnostic testing and labs, acupuncture, and functional medicine support. Angela is an incredible wealth of knowledge with the most caring heart. I am forever grateful for finding Mercier Therapy and for Angela at Well + Core."
